Meen Puli ( Tangy Tamarind Fish Curry)

Ingredients

Mathi(Sardines)/Ayila – ½ kg
Tamarind pulp water – as much required(2 small pieces mixed with water)
Red chilli powder – 2 tsp
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Coriander powder – 1 ½ tsp
Ginger cut into small pieces – a small piece
Garlic – 4 cloves
Small onions - 5 nos
Fenugreek powder – ½ tsp
Tomato sliced as round pieces – 1 no.
Salt to taste
Curry leaves for garnishing
Oil – 1 tbsp

Method

Grind in a mixer, tamarind, red chilli, turmeric, coriander, ginger, garlic, small onion and salt. In a pan, add the ground paste and water along with the fish and cook well. When done, add the fenugreek powder and mix well. Add the sliced tomato and curry leaves for garnishing purpose. When fully cooked, off the flame, add the oil and mix well. Serve with rice or chapatti.
